As a 30-something woman I am becoming more and more conscious of my skin and the need to keep it well moisturised and protected in the hope of slowing down the ageing process for as long as possible. I also want to ensure that I am not plastering myself in a load of chemicals and petroleum products to achieve this.

I have therefore tried a variety of different natural / organic body moisturisers over the past few years and they all have their own individual properties, but as the product descriptions were all written by different people (generally the manufacturers) I found it quite difficult to decide which product was right for me.

I want to say a big thank you to the manufacturers of the products listed below for consenting to be included in this feature and for providing me with samples, so I could try to give you a description of each of them from the same perspective (mine!)

I have also tried to give you an idea of the costs of postage, as these can vary quite considerably from company to company, but this should only be viewed as a guide as there are often different rates dependant on the size of your order.

Bathgrrrl!
Cocoa Butter Moisturiser Bar.

This is completely different to all the other products tested in that it is a solid bar, rather than an oil or cream. Its a little fiddly to use but I found it especially effective on elbows an heels, leaving them feeling soft and smooth. Delicately fragranced with lavender and lemon essential oils.

 

Cioccolatina
Tiramisu Body Butter.

A really rich, thick cream with a wonderful sweet fragrance from unrefined cocoabutter, coffee and monoi oil. It massages easily into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and silky and not at all greasy.

 

Circaroma

Refreshing Body Lotion. Retail price £15.00 for a 190ml bottle.
A light creamy lotion which warms and softens the skin.
Refreshing ginger and pink grapefruit fragrance.

Softening Body Butter. 100% organic. Retail price £22.00 for a 140g jar
A light buttery texture which melts effortlessly into the skin, leaving it glowing and feeling smooth and nourished. Lovely fresh citrus scent with a hint of geranium flower.

 

Crabbe & Wylde Botanicals
Monoi de Tahiti Oil.

This oil is solid when cold, but melts in warm temperatures or just when you apply it to the skin. The delicate sweet fragrance is gorgeous and long lasting, and it soaks into the skin without leaving it feeling greasy.

 

Dr. Hauschka
Quince Body Moisturiser.

This lotion has a light milky texture and a lovely fresh fragrance. It absorbs easily into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and refreshed and not at all greasy.

 

Earthbound Organics
Shea Body Butter.

A rich, thick cream with a soft buttery texture. It leaves the skin with a pleasant glow, and is ideal for soothing very dry skin conditions. Fragranced with sandalwood essential oil.

 

Essential Care

Lovely rich lotion which absorbs easily leaving even the driest patches of skin feeling soft and nourished. Delicately fragranced with essential oils.

 

Faith in Nature
Organic Lavender Baby Massage Oil. 99% organic ingredients.

As the name suggests, this is actually marketed as a baby massage oil, however it also doubles as a really nice body moisturiser for mum. Its not too greasy, and leaves skin feeling soft and smelling of lavender. Great to use at bedtime.

This has quite a firm texture as is does not contain any water. It melts easily on contact with the skin and leaves it feeling toned and stimulated. Subtle fresh fragrance.

Mother Earth
Raindrops & Roses Body Butter.

A soft buttery texture that melts on contact with the skin, with the subtle fragrance of roses. Ideal if you like the look and feel of an oil on your skin, but don't like the mess.

A rich lotion that absorbs into the skin leaving it feeling soft, with a matte finish. Subtle exotic fragrance from essential oils of Sandalwood and Geranium.

 

The Organic Pharmacy
Ultra Dry Skin Cream.

A very rich thick cream with a subtle fragrance, which leaves skin feeling nourished and glowing. As the name suggests, this is aimed at very dry skin and eczema, and is also ideal for feet, knees, elbows and hands. I personally found it a little too rich to use as an everyday hand cream, however I would recommend it as an overnight moisturising treatment for anybody's hands.

 

Pur Skincare
Soothing Body Butter.

Made from a base of organic cocoa butter, organic shea butter, honey and beeswax, this is a firm body butter, rather like a balm in texture. It leaves the skin feeling soft and nourished with a subtle glow, and a delicate fragrance from petitgrain and ho leaf oils.

A light oil which really does leave the skin feeling toned and firm. Subtle fragrance from essential oils including rosemary, cinnamon, lavender and lemon.

Restorative Body Balm. Price £38.40 for a 120ml jar.
This does not contain any water and is therefore firmer than most of the others tested. It has a delicate fresh fragrance and melts easily on contact with the skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple.

 

Suvarna

Geranium & Ylang Ylang Hand & Body Lotion. Price £6.75 for a 75ml bottle.
Both of these lotions are light and easily absorbed, leaving skin feeling soft and supple. They have a feminine floral scent from essential oils of Rose, Rosewood, Geranium, Palmarosa and Sandalwood (Rose lotion); and Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lavender, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Bergamot and Benzoin (Geranium & Ylang Ylang lotion). There is also an unscented version.

 

Tui Bee Balmes
Lavender Masssage & Body Wax.

Made by a co-op in the Tui Community in Golden Bay, New Zealand, this product is based on beeswax, and is recommended for dry skin conditions. It has a lovely light fragrance from lavender essential oil, and absorbs into the skin leaving it feeling soft and nourished, but not oily. Various alternative fragrances including Wild Rose, Pacific Nights, Mountain Forest and Orange Spice. Also an unscented version.

 

Yaoh Hemp
Organic Hemp Seed Oil Moisturising Creams (Original, Papaya and Coco Bean).

Original - A light cream with a delicate lavender fragrance.
Papaya - A thicker cream with a sweet fruity fragrance.
Coco Bean - A very rich cream with a subtle coco fragrance.
These creams are suitable for use all over the body, including the face. They all absorb easily into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and nourished. Suitable for vegans.
