Continuing on from my August article on body moisturisers, this month I thought I would turn my attention to natural / organic facial cleansers.

Over the past few weeks I have tried each of these cleansers on my own skin, which is normal/combination but can occasionally be a little sensitive.

Something I wasn't expecting to happen is that my skin is now clearer and less oily than when I started the trial. I don't think I could put this down to any one specific cleanser - maybe its just because I have been changing cleansers every few days?

Once again, I want to say a big thank you to the manufacturers of the products listed below for consenting to be included in this feature and for providing me with samples, so I could try to give you a description of each of them from the same perspective.

I have also tried to give you an idea of the costs of postage, as these can vary quite considerably from company to company, but this should only be viewed as a guide as there are often different rates dependant on the size of your order.

Circaroma
Skin Gentle Cleansing Balm.
Retail price £22.00 for a 40g jar.

A rich semi-solid cleansing balm, suitable for the most sensitive of skin. It will also remove eye make up, and leaves skin feeling soothed and hydrated.

 

Crabbe & Wylde Botanicals

Rita of India Soapnut Cleanser. Retail price £6.00 for 100ml.
A creamy brownish-pink lotion, suitable for all skin types including sensitive. It is gentle enough to be used around the eyes, however it may not remove all traces of eye-make-up, so a separate eye makeup remover is recommended. Leaves skin feeling soft and supple.

Micronised Rhassoul Cleansing Clay. Retail price £7.25 for 250g.
This is a fine grey powder which should be mixed into a paste and massaged gently into damp skin. It is suitable for all skin types, and is also great for cleansing / volumising hair.

 

Dr. Hauschka
Cleansing Cream.
Retail price £12.00 for a 50ml tube. Delivery £2.00 to UK.
A thick cream cleanser suitable for all skin conditions. It is light brown in colour and contains grains of nut to gently exfoliate.
This is not a make up remover, and care should be taken around the eyes, but it is a lovely cleanser which leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed.

 

Earthbound Organics

Cream Cleanser. Retail price £6.95 for a 50g jar.
A rich, thick cream with a soft buttery texture that leaves skin feeling soothed and moisturised.

Facial Scrub. Retail price £6.05 for a 30g jar.
This is a dry mix of organic aduki beans, oatmeal and lavender which is mixed with a little water to form a gentle exfoliant.

Honey Mud Mask. Retail price £7.95 for a 70g jar.
This mask is suitable for all skin types - it can help to balance combination skin, normalise oily skin and revitalise dry skin.

 

Essential Care
Coconut Cleanser. Soil Association certified 91.7% organic.
Retail price £8.95 for a 160ml bottle.

A rich creamy lotion for all skin types, including sensitive. It will also remove make-up and is gentle enough to use around the eyes. It has a delicate fresh fragrance and leaves skin feeling soft, cleansed and refreshed.

 

 

Green People
Gentle Cleanse and Organic Base Cleanser.
Soil Association certified at least 92% organic agricultural ingredients.
Retail Price £10.99 for each 200ml tube. Delivery £2.50 to UK.
These are both rich creams suitable for all skin types. They are great all round cleansers that will also remove eye make up, and leave skin feeling soft and supple. Both are very gentle, but if you have sensitive skin you would probably be best to choose the Organic Base Cleanser as it does not contain any essential oils.

 

Love the Planet
Tea Tree & Lavender Cleanser.
Retail Price £5.00 for a 200ml bottle.
Delivery to UK.
Suitable for all skin types, this rich lotion will also remove eye make up.
It can be washed off, but try wiping it off with their washable cleansing pads - a great invention!

 

Mother Earth
Organic Cleansing Oil Chamomile & Yarrow for sensitive skin.
Retail price £17.00 for a 100ml bottle. Delivery £2.95 to UK.
This unfragranced oil has the delicious scent of coffee and is gentle enough to use around the eyes. It leaves skin feeling soft and soothed and, unless you have very dry skin, you may feel that you don't actually need to use a moisturiser afterwards.

Paul Penders Rosemary Cleansing Milk.
Retail price £14.95 for a 180ml bottle.
A rich lotion for normal/oily skin. It is suitable for use around the eyes, and leaves skin feeling cleansed and refreshed.

 

 

Organic Apoteke

Buttermilk Cleanser. Retail Price £18.95 for a 50g jar.
A thick cream cleanser and make up remover, which is suitable for all skin types and leaves skin feeling soft and nourished. Take care when using around the eyes, as it can sting a little if it gets in them.

Active Facial Cleanse Gel. Retail Price £16.95.
This gel is suitable for all skin types, especially oily or problem skin. I found it was best applied on damp skin, and left it feeling cleansed and refreshed. Again take care around the eyes.

 

The Organic Pharmacy
Rose & Chamomile Cleansing Milk.

A light milky lotion with a subtle fragrance, formulated for sensitive skin prone to redness. It will also remove make-up and leaves skin feeling soft, supple and glowing.

 

 

Pure 'nuff Stuff

Foaming Facewash. Retail price £5.50 for a 200ml bottle.
A rich creamy foam best applied to damp skin and washed off.

Avocado Cleanser. Retail price £5.25 for a 100ml bottle.
An opaque pale green cream containing gentle exfoliating grains. Can be applied to wet or dry skin, and either wiped or washed off.

Both of these cleansers are suitable for use around the eyes, and leave skin feeling clean and refreshed.

 

Spiezia Organics
Facial Cleanser. Soil Association certified 100% organic.

A soft buttery cleansing balm containing beeswax, camomile, marigold and eucalyptus. This is an excellent all round cleanser and eye make up remover which is suitable for all skin types and leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and balanced.
