Food miles describes how far food travels from the farmer to the consumer. The shorter the distance the better it is for the climate, as less carbon dioxide is released into the environment. To find out more about food miles see our Ecological section.
Minimise food miles by getting your organic meat, fruit and vegetables delivered direct from the farm, or by a local UK retailer - these are sometimes called organic food box schemes.
To help you to minimise food miles we have grouped producers and retailers into regions and stated, where possible, from where they source their food (to access this please select the local deliveries button below).
If you can't find what you want in your local area we have also separated out the companies that will deliver nationally (to access this please select the national deliveries button below).
Finally, your local supermarket may also offer a home delivery service - you can check on their websites if they deliver in your area, by selecting the supermarkets button below.
If you're still to be convinced about the benefits of organic food take a look at The Wholefood Connection which includes information and articles about organic and wholefoods.
If you are looking for a farm shop in your area, take a look at Farm Shop Review.
